Why has Riba been prohibited by Islam?

Riba is one of the major contributors towards inflation

Agree with the point of “rich becoming richer”. These lenders only care about profit and being successful in their mission. Their only concern is the likelihood of getting their loan repaid (looking at peoples credit profiles/scores etc).

It’s a shame because : “O you who believe, do not eat up the amounts acquired through ribā (interest), doubled and multiplied. Fear Allah, so that you may be successful.” [Al-Imran: 130]

Agreed. That goes on to support the point of why it’s hard to avoid interest because although you are paying the loans off, the interest is still there.

Riba is one of the biggest things that has destroyed countries and societies as a whole. The question as to “Why” comes from a western perspective because we are surrounded so much by it that it is easy to engage in it than not. It’s like asking, why is gambling bad? It is a silly question.

It destroys everything, from societies to countries to even between families. It is a war against the poor and an immoral act. The rich seek to gain against the poor even more than ever with riba.

Yes, when desire and greed blind your conscience. The west is so entangled in the interest-based system it struggles to view it objectively

Rich people have become so indoctrinated about gaining money, they forget they are also affecting the poor with their riba transactions. Completely selfish and immoral.

Very good pint brother. I find that most people don’t say riba is “Halal” but justify it in their own ways, or they don’t think it is as deep as it is. Although, having said that, certain scholars of us allow mortgage even though there is riba involved, not to say its halal but to say, it is a necessity and a need so one can be justified to do it using quran and sunnah. The only people who can rightfully justify it in our time is our scholars.
